A California district attorney declined to file expenses Tuesday in opposition to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Lawyer Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police reviews and videos of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been recognized, and Tyson requested that no charges be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Workplace concluded its evaluation of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery against another passenger on an airplane whereas waiting at the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe mentioned in an announcement.
"Our determination is that we will not file any charges towards Mr. Tyson based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embrace the conduct of the sufferer leading as much as the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, in addition to the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no fees be filed in this case," Wagstaffe mentioned.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video confirmed Tyson, 55, appearing to attempt to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson mentioned the particular person was harassing Tyson. The video didn't show what occurred before the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file charges by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and regulation enforcement agencies "for their cautious, diligent, and professional work."
