Mum or dad with hid weapon accidentally shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the guardian in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The college had early launch and college students were launched on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In keeping with police, the mother or father, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not severe.

The varsity district mentioned White was inside the constructing, near the foyer area, and not within the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials said there was no threat made and the dad or mum did not have "malicious intent."

No students or workers were injured. The mother or father was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass faculty taking pictures, there have been 5 cases in North Texas related to guns brought to colleges or threats made.

Arlington parents stated their minds immediately thought of the worst when they had been notified.

No mother or father ever wants there to be a reason for them to get a textual content message saying their child's school is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help but think the worst once they do.

"After I acquired the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most instances, lockdowns are only drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that understanding what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our instructor got a notification on their phone saying somebody was in the building," he stated.

Guns should not allowed on college property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with stated even if it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to highschool, and obviously, statistically, it's unlikely to occur, but you never need to be the one statistic. What if it is your children?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington faculty. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington college and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a college shooting, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever happened at his college.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve received to run wherever that’s protected and conceal," she instructed her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to speak politics, Mitchell said one thing needs to be done now. 

"They want to speak about it, they wish to campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, but they don’t need to really pass any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
