Comic Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage Tuesday night as he performed at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl enviornment, with videos from audience members' cellphones quickly flooding social media and exhibiting a person appear to run onto the stage and sort out the comedian.

Chappelle, whose unapologetic humor has made him a lightning rod for criticism, appeared unscathed by the sudden interruption and later joked (Note: Linked video contains harsh language including profanity) with fellow comedian and actor Jamie Foxx onstage that he'd taken revenge on his attacker.

Movies posted to Twitter appeared to indicate the one that charged Chappelle being detained exterior the venue by police and then loaded into an ambulance with seen accidents.

Witnesses said — and movies appeared to point out — that the person was set upon by multiple folks onstage immediately after he attacked Chappelle.

While all the debacle was captured in multiple movies shot by members of the audience, cellphone use was officially banned through the performance.  

The motivation for the preliminary assault remained unclear, and there was no fast response from the Los Angeles Police Department to CBS Information' request for information about the incident.

Comic Chris Rock was at the show, and jokingly requested if the attacker was Will Smith — who made headlines by bounding up on stage and slapping Rock at the Academy Awards in March.

Chappelle drew a pointy rebuke late last 12 months from the transgender community for jokes at their expense featured in his latest Netflix special, "The Closer," which premiered in October.

Netflix stood by the Washington D.C. native, continuing to air the special regardless of a whole bunch of its personal staff staging a walk-out over what they deemed Chappelle's transphobic jokes.

The comic later stated he'd be completely happy to fulfill with any member of the transgender group, but that he wouldn't be swayed by "anyone's demands" to censor his routine.

The 48-year-old comedian listed three conditions for any potential meeting, and responded to fellow comic Hannah Gadsby, who labelled Chapelle's Netflix particular "hate speech."

"When you wanna meet with me, I might be greater than prepared to, but I have situations: To begin with, you can't come if in case you have not watched my special from starting to finish. You could come to a spot of my choosing and a time of my selecting. And thirdly, it's essential to admit that Hannah Gadsby isn't humorous."
